The Court of Appeal has scheduled the hearing of a petition filed by former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda for January 28, before a five-judge bench.
Karannagoda submitted the petition seeking to overturn the Attorney General’s decision to list him as a defendant in a case currently being heard by a three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court. The case pertains to the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths in and around Colombo in 2008.
In light of the ongoing proceedings at the Colombo High Court, a request was made for Karannagoda’s petition to be heard by the full bench of the Court of Appeal. Responding to this, the Court of Appeal has assigned a five-judge bench for the case.
