The leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the Samagi Jana Alliance, Mr. Sajith Premadasa, has expressed confidence that the party will secure victory in the Colombo district in the upcoming elections, with the support of the people. He emphasized that the party’s aim is to usher in an era of development for the country, creating a prosperous and united nation.

Speaking at the event where the SJB presented its nominations for the Colombo district, Mr. Premadasa highlighted the need to collaborate with the current president in addressing the needs of the country’s 22 million citizens. He stressed that the outdated political culture must be abandoned and replaced with a spirit of unity and compromise, especially as the country faces the challenge of repaying its debt by 2028. He called on the entire population to work together in this effort, pledging that his leadership would be dedicated to rebuilding the economy.

Mr. Premadasa also noted that there had been intense competition during the candidate selection process, with a significant focus on increasing women’s representation. He stated that the upcoming provincial council and local government elections will reserve 25% of seats for women, ensuring greater female participation in governance.

Concluding his remarks, Mr. Premadasa emphasized the importance of working for the well-being of the people, stating that regardless of one’s profession, the ultimate goal should be to serve the nation with the people’s blessing.
