The Nimal Siripala faction of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, which previously supported former President Ranil Wickremesinghe during the presidential election, has announced its decision to withdraw support from him.
The group met with Mr. Wickremesinghe yesterday afternoon to communicate this decision.
They have confirmed that their team will contest separately in the upcoming general election.
