Concerns Raised Over Issuance of Casino License Ahead of Presidential Election
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

During a press conference held today, lawyers from the Sajaba party raised concerns about the issuance of a casino license by the Finance Minister under questionable circumstances, with the vote margin being notably close.

According to the lawyers, on July 5th, the President signed a document granting a casino license to ‘Majestic Pride Casino Sri Lanka,’ an establishment run by its parent company, ‘Golden Island Hospitality Limited.’ The Board of Investment had also granted its approval for this license. The lawyers highlighted that the license was issued on August 1st, shortly after the announcement of the presidential election on July 26th.

With only three weeks remaining before the presidential election, the lawyers questioned whether the President, acting in his capacity as Finance Minister, had adhered to the necessary legal and regulatory standards in issuing the casino license. They emphasized the need for transparency regarding the payments involved and called for an investigation into the destination of these funds.
