In a startling disclosure, presidential candidate Wijayadasa Rajapaksa revealed that Japan’s reluctance to invest in Sri Lanka is due to ongoing corruption within the country’s cabinet. According to Rajapaksa, Japanese representatives have informed him that both public and private sector companies from Japan are avoiding investment in Sri Lanka because certain individuals who demand bribes remain in positions of power.

Rajapaksa expressed his deep embarrassment over the situation, emphasizing that it reflects poorly on both himself and the nation.

He further alleged that President Ranil Wickremesinghe had offered the posts of Minister of Ports and Airports to a cabinet minister accused of soliciting an 800 crore rupee bribe from a Japanese company during Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s presidency. Wijayadasa believes that Gotabaya should have removed the minister in question. The failure to do so, he claims, led to the Japanese government halting investments in Sri Lanka.

Speaking at a public meeting, Rajapaksa also noted his involvement in certain legislative matters, admitting that he had supported some bills without fully understanding their contents.
