The Department of Immigration and Emigration says that from today, steps will be taken to issue 1,000 foreign passports each day. Sri Lanka Latest News

People have been waiting near the main office of the Immigration and Emigration Department in Battaramulla for many days in anticipation of obtaining foreign passports.

Most of them spent last night at the same place.

Measures were taken to give token cards to the people who have been staying like this for many days.

Queues were formed in front of the main office of the Immigration Department as the number of blank foreign passports held by the department was limited.

It is in such a background that the department requested the public to apply for passports only for essential reasons as the situation will continue until the month of October until the introduction of the new electronic passport.

However, despite those requests, more people came to the place this morning.
