Police have arrested 17 school students who abused an 11th-grade school girl in a main school in Thanamalwila area for a year. Sri Lanka Latest News

It is reported that another woman has been arrested by the police in connection with this incident.

The girl’s mother alleges that when the girl was admitted to the Hambantota General Hospital for a medical examination, a doctor there frightened the girl and she tried to commit suicide.

The student, who is studying in the 11th grade of a Thanamalwila main school, had a romantic relationship with a student of the same school.

Later, the student tricked the girl and took her to a friend’s house where it is said that he raped her for the first time.

The police said that several other students in the house forced the girl to drink alcohol, abused and raped her and recorded it on video.

The police said that the suspect students had gang-raped the girl on 7 occasions since 2023 after showing the video clip to the girl.

The number of students of that school involved in that is 17.

The closest incident happened the other day near Kirindi Oya.

There, 7 students together took this girl near the river and gang-raped her and videotaped it.

It is said that the incident was revealed to the disciplinary committee including the principal of the school concerned.

The police investigation revealed that the school’s disciplinary committee, including the principal, brought the student and the concerned students to inquire about the facts and suppressed the incident as it would tarnish the school.

This is because the son of a teacher consultant in Tanamalvila region is also among the suspects and the student’s mother is also a school teacher.

The girl had drawn various drawings on the walls of her house regarding this crime and violence that happened to her.

However, an investigation was started based on information received by the Thanamalvila police station regarding this incident.

Accordingly, the student was summoned to the police station for questioning and many other details were revealed.

It has been revealed that these suspected students have abused and raped this student by giving alcohol in the toilets and sports restrooms and in the students’ homes when they went to sports matches in other schools.

The police, who recorded statements from several people including the principal who suppressed the incident, arrested 17 suspected students and a woman who supported the incident.

They are to be produced in the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court today.

Meanwhile, when the abused girl was admitted to the Hambantota General Hospital for a medical examination, her mother alleged that a doctor there further troubled the girl.

Accordingly, the girl’s mother took steps to complain to the Hambantota Police and the National Child Protection Authority about the incident..
