President Ranil Wickremesinghe May Dissolve Parliament 24 Hours Before Presidential Election | Sri Lanka Latest News
The Election Commission has announced that the presidential election is scheduled for September 21st. Reports suggest that President Wickremesinghe may dissolve Parliament at midnight on September 20th.
If this occurs, the current cabinet will serve as an interim government until the general election is held. Consequently, the newly elected president will be unable to appoint a new cabinet and will have to work with the interim cabinet until the general election.
Opposition parties argue that the potential dissolution of Parliament, just before the presidential election, is intended to create confusion within the country.”
