Cinnamon Gardens Police are investigating the disappearance of 14 century-old paintings reported missing from the art gallery. According to internal sources at the National Art Gallery, the missing paintings include works by renowned artists such as Jayadeva and Grace.
The paintings disappeared during the National Art Gallery’s maintenance period when they were temporarily removed. Yasintha Gunawardena, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs, stated that the paintings went missing between 2008 and 2016, and the police are currently investigating.
The Kurunduwatta police have taken a statement from the officer in charge of the National Art Gallery and are conducting further investigations. The police investigation has revealed that there are no documents or information related to these paintings.
