The Supreme Court has dismissed the FR case, which argued that the 19th Amendment of the Constitution had not been formally adopted and sought to prevent the holding of the presidential election until it was approved by a referendum. The court imposed a charge of Rs 5 lakhs, which must be paid by July 31.
This order was issued by a three-member Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.
Previously, UNP General Secretary Mr Range Bandara stated that the President had submitted a proposal to the Cabinet to determine whether the presidential term is five or six years, which would then be presented to Parliament for adoption.
