The swearing-in ceremony for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appointed for his third consecutive term, will take place on the 9th in New Delhi. Thousands of government leaders and guests will attend, including Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Modi’s party alliance recently won the Indian general election, held over 44 days in seven phases, marking the third consecutive victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes Modi’s party. Following the victory, Modi was officially appointed leader of the NDA, and President Draupadi Murmu then appointed him as Prime Minister of India for the third term.

The official swearing-in ceremony will be held this afternoon at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President of India’s official residence. Approximately 9,000 guests, including state leaders from neighboring countries, have been invited. Attendees include Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Seychelles Vice President, Mauritius Prime Minister, Bhutan Prime Minister, and Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu.

Security measures in New Delhi have been heightened for the ceremony. Special vehicle inspections near the border have begun, the capital has been designated a no-fly zone, public gatherings are banned, and commandos, snipers, and drones have been deployed around Rashtrapati Bhavan. Special security is also in place around hotels where diplomats are staying.

Additionally, celebrations have been organized in 22 cities, including New York, to celebrate Modi’s return as Prime Minister, led by foreign collaborators of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
