Opposition Leader Calls for Constitutional Anti-Corruption Reforms and Education Overhaul
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The leader of the opposition emphasized that to build the country, corruption must be eradicated from society and the government system. He called for a robust mechanism to eliminate corruption, fraud, theft, and robbery, stating that anti-corruption measures should be enshrined in the constitution and made unalterable. He insisted that those who have harmed the nation through corruption must be brought to justice, and efforts should be made to recover lost resources and property.

Opposition leader Mr Sajith Premadasa made these remarks during a donation event where he provided a friendly classroom worth Rs. 100,000 to a school and contributed to the School Development Fund for the school’s dance team.

Mr. Premadasa stressed that government funds alone cannot solve the education sector’s issues. He argued that a creative program is needed beyond simply increasing the education budget.

He clarified that his focus is not on election outcomes but on establishing a knowledge-centered economy to pull the country out of bankruptcy. He criticized extreme ideological groups opposing educational reforms and highlighted the hypocrisy of leaders sending their children to private and international institutions while resisting change.

Under the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s “Breath Program,” medicines and hospital equipment worth Rs. 1832 lakhs have been donated to 60 hospitals. Additionally, the “Sakwala Bus Program” has provided 87 buses worth Rs. 50 lakhs to 87 schools, and Rs. 4242 lakhs have been allocated to improve classroom equipment for 196 schools under the IT program.
