The government has taken a loan of about 800 billion rupees for the construction of highways.
The annual profit earned from highways is five billion rupees.
According to the calculation, the minister says that it will take another 160 years to pay off the loans taken for the construction of highways.
The minister added that in order to pay off this debt and all other debts and to maintain the economy stably, the economic reforms proposed by the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank for Sri Lanka should go through.
