A group of dairy farmers protested the transfer of one of the two veterinarians in Kundasale Division to Maskeliya yesterday (13) in front of the Central Provincial Council building in Pallekele. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
Dairy farmers who joined the protest also said that by transferring one doctor at a time when two veterinarians are not enough to work in the Kundasale Divisional Secretariat where there are about 3000 dairy farmers, there is a risk of collapsing the dairy industry.
They also stated that many services related to the animal sector have been disrupted because the doctor who was transferred out of the two veterinarians who worked in Kundasale Division did not report to work on sick leave.
In this connection, it was revealed that 11 veterinarians in the Central Province had left the service and gone abroad to send veterinarians to the divisions without a single veterinarian, and among the 07 doctors who were transferred, only the Kundasale veterinarian did not accept it and did not report to work. Kumuduni Rajanayake, Central Provincial Director of Animal Production and Health Department said.
She said that the milk producer in the Central Province receives about 02 lakh liters of contribution from the dairy and now that figure has decreased by about 10000 litres.
