According to Tambuttegama police, a van carrying a group of people who were returning after attending to ticketing procedures for them to embark on pilgrimage to Mecca met with an accident in the Ariyagama area of the Anuradhapura-Padeniya main road, killing four people and injuring four others. The deceased were residents of Kahatagasdigiliya Kiralagala Road . The minivan they were traveling in has collided with a container truck that tried to stop on the side of the road. This group met with this accident yesterday (03) when returning from Colombo to their home at Kahatagasdigiliya. According to Tambuttegama Police, this accident happened today (04) at around 12.10 am.
The driver of the minivan, Maulana Seiyasu Ahmed Aseed Abdul Khan (46), a resident of Kiralagala Road, Kahtagasdigiliya, and the passengers in the vehicle, Jainu Abdeen Wafa (36), Saidu Ahmed Maulan Abdeen (43) and Abdul Rahman Mohammad Naseer (36) were killed in the accident. The minivan that was involved in the accident was heavily damaged, while the container lorry was slightly damaged.
At the time of the accident, 08 people were traveling in the van, among them Four persons have lost their lives. In that accident, a couple, their sister, and another brother of the same family who was traveling as a driver have lost their lives. Accordingly, two men and two women have lost their lives.
A 55-year-old man, two 11-year-old and 6-year-old boys and an 8-year-old girl were also injured in the accident, and the local residents admitted them to Kadinaminthambuttegama hospital. The 55-year-old man and the 6-year-old boy were taken to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital due to their serious condition. The 11-year-old boy and the 8-year-old girl are being treated in Tambuttegama Hospital.
The bodies of the four deceased have been deposited in the mortuary of Tambuttegama Base Hospital.
The driver of the lorry has been arrested in connection with the accident, and he is scheduled to produce before the Tambuttegama Magistrate’s Court today (04).
