Sri Lanka Latest News

According to section 155 of this bill, the Minister in charge has been given the power to recall the public representatives of the disbanded local government bodies without holding a new election.

The reason given is that due to the current economic crisis, conducting a new election is a costly affair.

It is stated in the petition that due to this, their fundamental rights are being violated and universal rights are being violated.

Therefore, the petitioner, in his petition, ordered that this bill be passed by a special majority of members or by a referendum.
