The Irrigation Department warns that the low-lying areas around the Ging Ganga may experience significant flooding with the ongoing heavy rains.
According to the Irrigation Department, the low-lying areas of the Ging Ganga valley belonging to the regional secretariats of Baddegama, Niagama, Neluwa, Thavalama and Nagoda may experience flooding in the next 03 hours to 24 hours.
The Department of Irrigation is informing the residents of the respective areas and the drivers of vehicles using the roads to be very careful in this regard.
In addition to the Ging Ganga, flood risk notices have also been issued to the people living in low-lying areas around the Nilwala River.
The Department of Irrigation said that the people living in the lowlands belonging to the Regional Secretariat Divisions of Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Akurassa, Athuraliya, Malimbada, Thihagoda, Matara and Devinuwara should be aware of it.
