The Supreme Court today (22) ruled that the travel ban imposed against former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, who were named as respondents in the fundamental rights petitions filed requesting an order to investigate the people responsible for the current economic crisis, is no longer in effect. and ordered the immigration controller.

When the relevant petition was called today, a five-member Supreme Court panel led by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya issued this order.

When the relevant petition was called today, President’s counsel Navin Marapana, who represented Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa and Mr. Basil Rajapaksa, who were named as respondents in the petition, appeared before the court and presented the facts before the court. He pointed out that he did not extent the travel bans since October 7 2022.

The President’s counsel requested the court to issue an order informing the Immigration and Emigration Controller of this.

The Supreme Court accepted the request and ordered the Registrar of the Supreme Court to inform the Controller of Immigration and Emigration that the travel ban issued to the two respondents is no longer in effect.
