When the government declared that there is no money to hold elections, it is reported that the loss-making oil corporation and the Sri Lankan company spent more than 178 crores on bonuses for their employees.

It is also reported that Ceylon Petroleum Statutory Corporation has paid its employees two months’ salaries, and SriLankan Airlines has paid each employee a bonus of one lakh rupees.

Although the Ministry of Finance announced this in a circular letter, it is reported that bonuses have been paid, indicating that the oil corporation is profiting from the increase in fuel prices. It is also known that a report that did not include the corporation’s debts revealed that 120 crores of rupees had been spent for this purpose.

Ceylon Petroleum Corporation employs 4200 people, and they have received a bonus of two months’ pay.

According to the report, because top officials are paid a monthly salary of 5 lakh rupees, certain officials have received bonuses of 10 lakh rupees each. It is also stated that the above amount was spent as a result of many lakhs of people receiving bonuses.

SriLankan Airlines employs 5800 people, and the 13th month salary for each of them is one lakh rupees.

As a result, 58 crore rupees have been spent on this project.

According to reports, the payment of bonuses up to the 13th month has been approved by a Supreme Court order.
