At a meeting ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, both DMK and AIADMK raised the Sri Lankan issue, especially the condition of the country’s Tamil population.

The Indian government has decided to conduct an all-party conference on Tuesday to review the situation in the neighboring country as Sri Lanka continues to struggle with a political and economic crisis.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi stated on Sunday that the Sri Lankan crisis will be discussed with leaders of different political parties during the all-party meeting by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Meanwhile, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), which are based in Tamil Nadu, asked that India get involved in the situation affecting Sri Lanka during a conference of various parties called ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament.

The Sri Lankan problem was brought up by both the DMK and AIADMK, particularly the plight of the Tamil minority there. Speaking to the media following the meeting, DMK leader T R Baalu and AIADMK leader M Thambidurai reiterated the demand of their respective parties.

According to a senior government official citing an office document dated July 16, the briefing by the ministries of finance and external affairs has been arranged for evening of July 19, the second day of the monsoon session of Parliament, according to news agency PTI.

The briefing will be attended by the floor leaders of various political parties, the official added.

In the midst of an unparalleled political crisis and economic turbulence, India has reassured Sri Lanka that it will continue to assist democracy, stability, and economic recovery in the country.

Gopal Baglay, the Indian High Commissioner, gave the promise to Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, the Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament, at a Saturday meeting.

A day after Speaker Abeywardena accepted President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s resignation, the meeting was held.
