In the first nine months of this year, around 81 drug-addicted children were referred for rehabilitation, according to Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.

He informed the legislature that three youngsters aged 1 to 14 and 78 minors aged 15 to 19 were referred for rehabilitation between January and September 2022.

The minister stated that the current rules are insufficient to combat dangerous substances such as ice ICE (methamphetamine crystals) and that the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Bill will be introduced to Parliament during the first week of January.

Rathana Thero requested that the leader of the house create a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to investigate the incident and give a report to the House within three months.
