Sri Lankan opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has congratulated Andy Burnham on becoming Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, while expressing hope for stronger relations between the two countries.
In a post published on X, Premadasa said:
“Warm congratulations to @AndyBurnhamGM on becoming Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Your leadership is proof that politics rooted in ordinary people’s lives still wins. We look forward to deepening the bonds between our nations.”
Burnham, the former Mayor of Greater Manchester, succeeded Keir Starmer after becoming leader of Britain’s governing Labour Party. He is the United Kingdom’s seventh prime minister in a decade.
