To commemorate World Environment Day, INSEE Lanka partnered with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to launch a vital coastal protection initiative. The project is part of the Coast Guard’s ambitious target of planting 10,000 Mudilla and Mangrove trees annually. INSEE’s involvement highlights the company’s long-term commitment to restore and safeguard Sri Lanka’s coastal ecosystems while recognising the scale and urgency of building climate resilience and promoting carbon sequestration.

The project commenced with the ceremonial planting of one hundred Mudilla trees on June 5, 2026, at Panadura beach near the Coast Guard lifesaving post, marking the first step towards the annual target.

Under Phase I of the initiative, a total of 1,000 Mudilla and 750 Mangrove saplings were planted at identified locations along the country’s coastline by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard These species were selected for their ability to strengthen coastal resilience, act as natural barriers against erosion, and support biodiversity.

INSEE Lanka has pledged to strengthen the project through ongoing contributions, including volunteer engagement, plant nursery development, and technical expertise. The collaboration is aligned with INSEE’s Sustainability Ambition 2030, specifically its Biodiversity pillar, emphasizing ecological restoration and long‑term environmental stewardship.

INSEE Lanka has been a consistent supporter of Sri Lanka’s coastal protection, restoring over ten hectares of mangroves and planting over 10,000 saplings in collaboration with national agencies and local communities. INSEE’s contribution safeguards coastal ecosystems and enhances the resilience of coastal communities, aligning with Sri Lanka’s broader climate adaptation and biodiversity protection strategies.
