People’s Bank proudly launched its 125th Cheque Deposit Kiosk (CDK) at the Self Banking Unit (SBU) of its Mid City Branch on 22 June 2026, under the patronage of Clive Fonseka, Chief Executive Officer/General Manager of People’s Bank, marking the highest number of Cheque Deposit Kiosks deployed by any commercial bank in Sri Lanka to date. This remarkable achievement has been reached during the Bank’s 65th Anniversary, further reflecting People’s Bank’s continued commitment to digital innovation and customer-centric banking solutions.
The Bank introduced its first Cheque Deposit Kiosk on 1 July 2021, commemorating its 60th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its digital banking journey. The launch of the 125th Cheque Deposit Kiosk marks another significant milestone in the Bank’s digital banking journey, reaffirming its commitment to delivering innovative, convenient, and technology-driven banking solutions.
The Cheque Deposit Kiosk is designed to provide customers with a seamless and user-friendly experience by enabling cheque deposits without the need to fill out deposit slips. Customers are only required to enter minimal information, including their account number, NIC number, and telephone number. The machine instantly captures images of the deposited cheques, displays them on the screen for verification, and, upon customer confirmation, completes the transaction by printing an acknowledgement receipt.
In addition to the printed receipt, the Bank has introduced an innovative e-receipt service. Customers receive a text message to their registered mobile number containing a secure URL that enables them to view the complete details of the deposited cheques, including cheque images.
The Cheque Deposit Kiosks enable customers to deposit multiple cheques in a single transaction quickly, securely, and conveniently. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year at self-banking units across the island, the service allows current account holders to deposit their daily collections even after business hours, eliminating the need to retain cheques in their custody overnight.
People’s Bank has also become the first commercial bank in Sri Lanka to introduce Digital Endorsement for cheques deposited through its Cheque Deposit Kiosks. Under this feature, a digital endorsement is automatically applied to the rear image of the cheque during the Bank’s back-end processing, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting a fully digital cheque processing workflow.
The launch of the 125th Cheque Deposit Kiosk further strengthens People’s Bank’s position as a leader in digital banking, reinforcing its commitment to delivering innovative banking solutions that enhance customer convenience while supporting the country’s digital transformation.
