People’s Bank has partnered with the University of Vavuniya to introduce a fully digital payment and collection system, marking a significant step in advancing Sri Lanka’s digital economy by eliminating manual cash handling.

The milestone was commemorated at the 32nd International Conference on IT Applications and Management held at the University of Vavuniya, with the participation of Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weerarathne and Vice Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Professor K. L. Wasantha Kumara, highlighting the national importance of the initiative.

As the official digital payment partner, People’s Bank implemented a secure and comprehensive digital payment ecosystem enabling students and stakeholders to make seamless payments through multiple digital channels, enhancing efficiency, transparency and financial accountability.

The initiative supports the Government’s digital transformation agenda and aligns with efforts to promote a cash-light economy, setting a strong precedent for digital adoption across higher education institutions in Sri Lanka.
