In a landmark celebration of professional excellence, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) welcomed a record-breaking 617 new Chartered Accountants at its Annual Convocation 2025, marking the largest single intake of Associate Members (ACAs) in its 65 year long history.

Held on 7 November 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), the historic convocation also underscores CA Sri Lanka’s pivotal role in strengthening the nation’s financial landscape and sets a new benchmark in its distinguished legacy as an influential professional body.

The convocation also witnessed 42 existing members being elevated to the esteemed Fellow Member (FCA) status, in recognition of their exceptional contributions, leadership, and commitment to the profession.

The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Nadun Fernando, Director – Operations & Engineering, Brandix Apparel Pvt Ltd. The event was also attended by Mr. Heshana Kuruppu, President of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. Tishan Subasinghe, Vice President, Mr.  Thivanka Jayasinghe, Chairman of the Member Relations Committee, Members of the Council, and Ms. Lakmali Priyangika, Chief Executive Officer.

“This is not just a convocation,” said Mr. Kuruppu in his address. “It is a celebration of excellence, ambition, and the future of leadership in finance and business. These 617 new Associate Members are not just a number, they represent a powerful chorus of intellect and dedication, ready to shape the future.”

Mr. Kuruppu emphasised that this record-breaking achievement is a testament to the vibrant future of the accounting profession in Sri Lanka and beyond. “Today’s Chartered Accountant is a strategist, a futurist, and an ethical leader. We have moved far beyond compliance to become architects of business resilience, translators of data into opportunity, and guardians of corporate trust.”

He also highlighted CA Sri Lanka’s ongoing digital transformation, aimed at equipping members with future-ready skills. “We are not just teaching accounting; we are preparing professionals to be architects of intelligent systems, interpreters of complex data, and ethical guardians of digital trust. The CA qualification is more contemporary than ever because it fuses timeless principles with future-proof skills.”

Addressing the newly elevated FCA members, Mr. Kuruppu said, “An FCA is more than a title; it is a mantle of leadership. With this honour comes a profound responsibility, to be guides and mentors to the 617 new members joining our profession today. The greatest legacy you can build is not just your own career, but the success of those who follow.”

In his speech, Mr. Jayasinghe called on new members to uphold the highest ethical standards. “As you progress towards the pinnacle of professional success, remain steadfast in your commitment to integrity, which is a cornerstone of our profession. To our new FCA members, I encourage you to assume greater responsibility in shaping our profession to meet the rising expectations of stakeholders.”

The ceremony also recognised outstanding individual achievements. Ms. Dinali Nayanuththara Jayasinghe won the President’s Award for Most Outstanding New Member 2025, while Mr. Marappulige Kavishka Madushan Nandasiri and Mr. Abdul Manaff Muhammed Kais were jointly awarded the Youngest CA Members of the Year 2025 title, with both qualifying as Chartered Accountants at the impressive age of just 23.

With a student base now exceeding 40,000, CA Sri Lanka continues to nurture a new generation of versatile, world-class business leaders. “It does not matter where you began; what matters is the excellence you achieve,” Mr. Kuruppu said in his speech

He concluded with a powerful message on ethics and leadership: “The law tells us what is permissible. Ethics inspire us to do what is honourable. True leadership is not found in simply following the rules but in choosing the right path, especially when no one is watching. Let your decisions be guided not only by what is legal but by what is just. Because in the end, your integrity will speak louder than any title or achievement.”
