Today marks the 31st consecutive day of excavation at the Chemmaniya mass grave site in Jaffna. During today’s operation, six additional bodies were unearthed, raising the total number of recovered remains to 141.
In a significant development, forensic officials began displaying clothing and other personal belongings found at the site for public identification. This initiative is part of the ongoing forensic investigation, aimed at assisting families in identifying missing relatives.
More than 200 families of the missing gathered at the site in Chemmaniya, hoping to identify evidence linked to their loved ones. The process received critical support from students of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Jaffna, forensic medical officers, and personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
A monitoring team, including the Commissioner of the Office on Missing Persons (OMP), was also present at the site today to oversee the ongoing activities.
Additionally, the scanning process that commenced yesterday has now been completed. The results of this scan are expected to be submitted to the court within the coming week.
