Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested this morning (25) in the Beliatta area by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), according to Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manatunga.
The arrest follows instructions from the Attorney General, who stated that sufficient evidence exists indicating Yoshitha Rajapaksa’s involvement in offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, No. 5 of 2006.
The Police Media Spokesperson further clarified that the arrest was carried out to facilitate legal proceedings against Rajapaksa in line with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code Act.
It is also noted that Yoshitha Rajapaksa had visited the CID on January 3rd to provide a statement concerning the ownership of a property located in the Kataragama area.
