Police Media Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manatunga informed Mawrata that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will soon summon former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and former Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to provide statements. This is part of an ongoing extensive investigation into allegations of large-scale corruption during the import of medicines under the previous government, specifically implicating former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

The CID has reportedly initiated steps to obtain statements from members of the then Cabinet, focusing on their collective responsibility for these irregularities.

Earlier reports from some media outlets suggested that the CID planned to visit the residences of the former President and Prime Minister to record their statements.

Meanwhile, CID sources confirmed that statements from several former Cabinet ministers have already been recorded concerning the pharmaceutical corruption case. The remaining ministers from the previous Cabinet will also be summoned in the coming days to complete the process.
