Former President and United National Party (UNP) leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe, is set to deliver a special statement on Thursday, October 17.
This will mark Wickremesinghe’s first public address since the recent presidential election, during which he plans to discuss the country’s current political climate and outline future strategies.
In his address, Wickremesinghe is expected to confirm his decision not to contest in the upcoming election and to refrain from entering Parliament through the national list. He will instead focus on leading the New Democratic Front, which is set to contest the general election under the Gas Cylinder symbol.
This public statement is highly anticipated, as it will be Wickremesinghe’s first since the conclusion of the presidential race.
