Investigations have been launched into allegations of fraud and corruption at the Foreign Employment Bureau, reportedly stemming from actions during the previous government. According to sources, Mrs. Harini Amarasuriya, the minister overseeing the sector, has received numerous complaints concerning these irregularities.
One of the key investigations centers on a scheme involving training provided to first-time domestic workers heading abroad. It is alleged that individuals were charged Rs. 75,000 for the training, yet the funds did not go to the Foreign Employment Bureau but were diverted to another party.
Both the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission and the Auditor General’s Department have commenced probes into the matter.
