Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe, leader of the United National Party (UNP), has firmly stated that he has no intention of stepping down from his position as party leader.
This announcement came after a meeting held yesterday afternoon, where a group of former UNP parliamentarians requested Mr. Wickremesinghe to resign from his leadership role.
In response, Mr. Wickremesinghe assured the former MPs that he has no plans to exit politics.
Mr. Wickremesinghe has held the leadership of the UNP for 30 consecutive years, having first assumed the role in 1994.
