The Election Commission has formally lodged a complaint with the Police Headquarters regarding a widely circulated video that has sparked national concern.
The Colombo District Election Dispute Resolution Center reported the video to authorities after a man claiming to be a member of the National People’s Force made inflammatory remarks about post-election violence following the presidential election.
The video, which has been spreading across social media platforms in recent days, reportedly emerged after a political meeting organized by the Aditana Retired Army Members’ Union, a group backing the National People’s Force.
In the video, an individual wearing a t-shirt bearing the party logo of the National People’s Force can be seen stating, “We are members of the National People’s Force. When we come to power, we will attack everyone in the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, the United National Party, and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.” The Election Commission has raised concerns that this statement promotes violence and has called for an investigation into the matter.
