Midas Safety Lanka is a part of the Midas Safety Group of companies, renowned for expertise in a wide range of hand and personal protection products for the past 44 years, and serving prominent customers in over 50 countries through a strong focus on consistent quality, industry knowledge, and innovative solutions. Midas Safety has over 10,000 employees globally, with around 3,000 employed in the Sri Lanka Region across three facilities in Katunayake, Biyagama, and Seethawaka Export Processing Zones.

Through “The Ismat and Mustafa Kassam Foundation”, Midas Safety drives various social and humanitarian causes aimed at improving the communities in which we operate, out of which education and healthcare are foremost.  During economic and pandemic crises, Midas Safety Lanka donated equipment worth LKR 20 million and with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army, established a COVID-19 ward at the Avissawella District General Hospital. The Company also funded medical equipment, ambulances, medicines, and organised blood donation campaigns.

Pushpasiri Bandara, Country Head for Midas Safety, Sri Lanka, speaking at the event said, “Midas Safety has a longstanding reputation for social responsibility and our steadfast partnership with the healthcare sector has led us to continually invest in uplifting hospital facilities in Sri Lanka. Most recently, we undertook construction work worth nearly LKR 110 million to expand and renovate six hospital buildings, at the District General Hospital Avissawella including the Clinic and Outpatient Department (OPD), and through collaborative efforts involving the hospital’s medical staff, Development Committee, and the Civil Security Department. We are proud of the team effort put in by all involved parties to enable proper facilities for the people of the Avissawella District.”

Speaking at the event, Arjuna Jayasinghe, Group Chief Information Officer, Midas Safety and Project Chair, said, “Midas Safety is committed to making the world a safer and better place now and in the future through its products and CSR initiatives such as developing the District General Hospital Avissawella. The hospital was upgraded to a District General Hospital and serves over 800,000 people across the Colombo, Ratnapura, Kegalle, and Gampaha districts. Despite a bed occupancy rate of approximately 140% in some wards and outdated facilities, the hospital continues to provide critical services to the community.  With major renovation being completed, the remaining work will be completed as soon as possible, ensuring that the hospital continues to operate and serve the community effectively.”

Speaking at the opening Dr. Indika Wanniyake, the Director of the District General Hospital Avissawella, added, “We are very grateful to Midas Safety for helping us renovate our hospital. The District General Hospital Avissawella is over 120 years old and today because of Midas Safety we have been able to give the people of the region a new hospital that is safe and functional, with proper roofing, sanitation and seating. The buildings were in a dilapidated state with patients having to stand in the sun waiting for their appointments especially in the OPD, now with this renovation process we have a safe space for all our patients and doctors.”

The Company’s initiative at the District General Hospital Avissawella exemplifies its dedication to social responsibility, enhancing healthcare services and contributing to the well-being of society. As a trusted partner to globally renowned brands for over four decades, Midas Safety continues to lead the way in personal protection, driven by a mission to make a positive impact on the world.
