The Nuwara Eliya Acting Magistrate Mr. Jayamini Ambagahawatta has ordered the Nuwara Eliya Police to arrest several suspects including the Secretary General of Ceylon Labor Congress and Minister of Estates Infrastructure and Water Transport Mr. Jivan Thondaman and present them to court.Sri Lanka Latest News
Last May (30) Minister Jeevan Thondaman reported the facts before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court on (22) when the Nuwara Eliya Police reported the facts to the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court regarding the incident of a group of supporters of the Ceylon Labor Congress forcibly entering the Nuwara Eliya Peadru Tea Factory controlled by the Kelani Valley Company. Mr Palitha Suhasinghe, a senior lawyer who reported the facts before the court on behalf of the estate company, said that it was done.
On 30.05.2024, the Nuwara Eliya Police reported the facts before the court regarding a group of Ceylon Labor Congress supporters, including the Minister, forcibly entering the Nuwara Eliya Peadru Tea Factory belonging to the Kelani Weli Estate Company and acting contrary to the Penal Code.
The Nuwara Eliya Police had informed the suspects including Minister Jeevan Thondaman in writing to appear before the court on (22), but none of the suspects appeared before the court, so the lawyers representing the estate company presented the facts before the court.
Lawyers represented President’s lawyer Anura Maddegoda, senior lawyer Mr. Palika Subhasinghe and Sures Gayan, who appeared in court on behalf of Kelani Valley Estate Company.
