A shocking revelation! Only 3% of the 4th and 5th-year children in the Central Province can write correctly! Sri Lanka Latest News

It was highlighted only 3 per cent of children in Central Province studying in classes four and five have a good level of literacy rate and the rest are below par.

Central Provincial Education Secretary Mr. Menaka Herath said that the strongest reason for this is the inability to provide practical education including writing skills for the children enrolled in the first year during the covid-19 epidemic.

The secretary said that not only in the primary sector but also in the 6th to 11th year, programs have been started to measure the reading and writing levels of the children and increase their literacy.

Programs have been implemented under World Bank support to increase the literacy of children in the Central Provinces, and teachers of 1st and 2nd years have been used in those schools to teach reading and writing to children in 4th and 5th years and to teach letters to children with the lowest level of literacy from 6th to 11th years. He also said that retired teachers have been employed.
