Installs Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at its corporate headquarters

Hemas Pharmaceuticals, the forefront importer of pharmaceuticals and surgical equipment in Sri Lanka, reaffirms its commitment to employee welfare by addressing a critical health concern. Under the theme “Our Employees are the Heartbeat of our Business,” Hemas Pharmaceuticals has taken proactive steps to enhance employee safety and preparedness against sudden cardiac arrest.

Sudden cardiac arrest, a potentially fatal event that can strike anyone at any age, is a leading global cause of mortality. Recognizing the urgency of response in saving lives, Hemas Pharmaceuticals has introduced a significant initiative – the installation of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at its corporate headquarters.

The ceremonious installation of the Nihon Kohden AED 3100 device took place at Hemas Pharmaceuticals’ head office premises. In attendance were key figures, including Mr. Jude Fernando, Managing Director of Hemas Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Thafgir Ammon, Head of Hemas Surgicals & Diagnostics Division, and Mr. Sumedha Amarawansa, Manager for Nihon Kohden division. The event also featured training sessions on Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED usage conducted by the Sri Lanka College of Anesthetists’ Consultants, led by Consultant Anesthetist and Chairperson of National Resuscitation Council, Dr. Mrs. Nilmini Wijesooriya.

Mr. Jude Fernando emphasised the profound significance of equipping Hemas Pharmaceuticals’ workforce with the skills of CPR and AED operation, underscoring their value not only within the company but also to the broader community. He extended an invitation to fellow corporate entities to invest in AEDs and provide essential training to their employees, thereby contributing to the preservation of invaluable lives. Mr. Fernando applauded the collaboration with the College of Anesthetists and Dr. Wijesooriya, expressing gratitude for the professional resuscitation trainers who facilitated the Hemas staff training.

The event also featured distinguished guests, including Dr. Nakamura Toki, Consultant Anesthetist and Resident Physician of the Embassy of Japan, who shared insights into the successful utilisation of AEDs in Japan and its impact on the ageing population. Ms. Lakna Wasalage from JETRO Colombo office highlighted the role of Japanese technology, particularly Nihon Kohden’s advanced medical equipment, in promoting enhanced healthcare solutions.

Participants were provided with comprehensive and engaging training in resuscitation techniques and AED operation. Upon successful completion of the training, attendees were awarded internationally recognized certificates by the College of Anesthetists and Intensivists.

Hemas Pharmaceuticals is proud to collaborate with Nihon Kohden, a renowned medical equipment manufacturer from Japan, with Hemas Surgicals & Diagnostics serving as the local agent since 2019. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing healthcare standards in Sri Lanka and ensuring the safety and well-being of employees and the wider community.
