The Sri Lanka Insurance Institute (SLII) proudly hosted its highly anticipated 6th Annual Inter-Insurance Company Quiz marking yet another successful year of bringing together the country’s insurance professionals for an engaging and exciting event. This year, a record-breaking 23 teams participated, representing 21 Insurance Companies and two broker teams.
The Inter-Insurance Company Quiz consisted of five challenging rounds, each comprising 10 questions. Covering a wide range of topics including Insurance, History, Entertainment, IQ, and Current Affairs. Amana Takaful Life PLC emerged as winners of the Quiz, demonstrating their exceptional knowledge and teamwork while SLIBA (Blues) and SLIBA (Reds) secured the positions 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up, respectively.
Sharing his thoughts on the event, Mr. Sithumina Jayasundara, the President of SLII, “The Inter-Insurance Company Quiz Competition has become a much sort after event for insurance professionals to come together, share experiences while demonstrating their knowledge on a variety of subjects. The participation and passion within our insurance community has always been very encouraging and I’m thrilled to witness the growth of this event year after year. The Inter-Insurance Quiz offers participants a valuable chance to take a break, engage in healthy competition and expand their professional networks. I’d like to congratulate the winners and express my sincere gratitude to all the participants, sponsors and organizers who contributed to make this event a resounding success.”
CEO of SLII Mr. Udeni Kiridena expressed his views on the event, stating, “This is the 06th time that we’ve organized the Inter-Insurance Company quiz and each year the competition had been won by a different company. With 23 teams taking part this year, I’m delighted to note that this event has once again proven to be a top-tier event for the insurance community where insurance professionals from different backgrounds came together to challenge themselves intellectually. Building on the success of this event, we look forward to organizing many such initiatives that will promote collaboration and excellence within the insurance industry.”
Mr. Hydery A. Rehmanjee former CEO and Director of Union Assurance Limited and Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Insurance, London, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Mr. Rehmanjee is a well-known personality amongst the insurance fraternity and has contributed immensely to the SLII and the industry as a whole. He is the author of the books “Understanding Insurance” and “Understanding an Analysis of Insurance Accounts” which are highly sort after for its context and simplicity. Speaking at the event, Mr. Rehmanjee, thanked the council for inviting him and highlighted the importance of Insurance Education for the growth and progress of the industry.
The Sri Lanka Insurance Institute is the only educational body for those in the local insurance field. It was established in 1981 to enhance professionalism in the practice of insurance in Sri Lanka and develop the necessary human resources in insurance and other related financial services. Over the years the institute has been governed by various councils and now comprises of 11 dynamic individuals from the field of insurance. The institute was established to fulfill the need to create an autonomous educational body devoted to enhancing the standards of the insurance field in Sri Lanka.
The institute conducts examinations for the Chartered Insurance Institute and Insurance Institute of India in addition to conducting local examinations. Local examinations are held namely, Insurance Foundation Certificate and the Diploma in Insurance.
Currently SLII has a membership base of around 3500 approximately, which includes Honorary members, Ordinary members and Registered members.
