In an effort to uplift the sanitary standards of lavatories in girls’ schools and raise awareness on the importance of proper hygiene habits for young girls, Sri Lanka’s leading hygiene brand and household name ‘Harpic’ embarked on a series of programs through its ‘Suwa Jana Meheyuma’ social responsibility campaign, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, and girls’ schools from the Western Province.

The first program under the campaign took place at Ambathale Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya on March 7, 2023, to coincide with International Women’s Day which is on March 8, 2023.

“Harpic Suwa Jana Meheyuma is a remarkable social responsibility activity which has been carried out by Reckitt Lanka Ltd for almost a decade now, and has been a proactive advocator of consistently improving and maintaining proper hygiene standards across our country,” notes Devindi Hewabandula – Category Manager – Hygiene – Reckitt Lanka Ltd.

“Through this campaign, we have organized a series of educational programs and professional lectures to bridge the awareness gap among most young school-going girls, on the importance of maintaining proper hygiene practices. With International Women’s Day also falling in line with the schedule of this program, we also aim to concurrently celebrate, inspire and champion these young and aspiring women,” she added.

The educational program included the cleaning, disinfecting and refreshing of lavatory facilities with a strong emphasis on maintaining such standards, which was followed by a professional lecture delivered by Maternal and Child Health Adviser Shyamali Pathirage, on the potential health implications and risks that young women may be vulnerable to in contaminated environments such as unclean toilets.

As a brand that understands the importance of maintaining lavatory hygiene, with the backing of parent company Reckitt Lanka Ltd, Harpic, together with the Ministry of Education, is confident and equipped with the essential tools to successfully conduct this series of programs.

‘Suwa Jana Meheyuma’ is Harpic’s flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) campaign which actively demonstrates the brand’s commitment to pursuing such worthy causes with a passionate interest to give back to society, reiterating itself as a socially, environmentally, and financially responsible business entity.

Harpic is a leading hygiene brand and household name from Reckitt Lanka Ltd, which is engaged in the production and distribution of household cleaning, health, hygiene, and nutrition products. Headquartered in Slough, UK, the Group operates in Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, and other developing markets, employing over 41,000 people across the globe, with a strong portfolio of popular products from well-known brands including Dettol, Mortein and Lysol to name a few from the range of brands.
