Businessmen have started a hartal campaign by closing their shops in Jaffna district in protest against the Independence Day celebrations. Simultaneously, it is reported that black flags have been raised in Jaffna University as well.

The students of Jaffna University and the students of Eastern University started a protest march today demanding solutions to the problems of the people of North East.

It is reported that they are marching from Jaffna to Batticaloa.
