According to a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), in order to mitigate long-term costs, even an absolute ruler must print money.
Dr. Wijewardena believes that if Ranil Wickramsinghe wants to print Rs. one trillion to pay salaries, he should reach an agreement with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to repay it within a specified time frame.
