Serina Williams to Play in Toronto – Canadian open

The National Bank Open, also known as the Canadian Open, released its field of competitors on Thursday. Jessica Pegula, daughter of Bills and Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula, and Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, are among those on the list.

The NBO returns after nearly three years and will be held from August 6 to 14. According to the NBO’s website, the tournament will feature 41 of the top-43 ranked WTA players, including Pegula, who is currently ranked eighth in the world. Iga Swiatek of Poland, ranked first, will also compete in the event.

Williams, for her part, used her protected ranking to enter the tournament’s main draw. Williams, a three-time Canadian Open champion, finished runner-up in 2019 to Canada native Bianca Andreescu, who will compete as a wild card this year.

The Canadian Open is the closest WTA tournament to Buffalo on the current schedule, and it is likely that Western New Yorkers will have the best chance to see Pegula and Williams play. To see a complete list of competitors, click here.,
The event precedes the US Open, which will take place from Aug. 29 to Sept. 11.
