Thugs destroy Tamil plantain crops in the South I Sri Lanka Latest News

A video of a few thugs cutting down plantain trees belonging to Tamil people, living in Deniyaya – Morawaka, has been published.

The people living in the Morawaka plantations state that the area is currently under the control of a Buddhist monk.

They say that they have been cultivating plantain trees in the spaces around their houses for their livelihoods.

A few days ago, the plantation owners had claimed that the plantain trees belonged to them when the residents were about to sell the harvest.

A group of people had walked into the premises and cut down the plantain trees. This incident was recorded by the residents of the area.

Not only the plantain trees but the thugs have destroyed other crops also, the people said.

The residents of the area have pleaded their case that they have been continuously threatened to stop their cultivations, and have requested to help them get justice.

TrueCeylon tried to contact the alleged monk to inquire regarding this matter but failed to connect.

The residents also stated that the Morawaka police have not taken any action, despite several complaints lodged against the trouble makers.
