Three-wheeler fare to be regulated

Cabinet spokesperson Bandula Gunawardena says that the regulation of all passenger transport services will be given to the National Transport Commission.

The Cabinet spokesperson said this while answering a question raised by a journalist attending the press conference to inform the Cabinet decisions held today (August 9).

Mr. Gunawardena mentioned that there are allegations from passengers that there are many irregularities, especially regarding the prices charged for three-wheelers, and that within a short period of time, the Ministry of Transport will get the power to regulate three-wheelers.

“There is a regulatory commission for private buses. National Transport Commission. Without creating a new institution, I hope that the National Transport Commission itself will bring an amendment to that act and give it the regulation of all passenger transport services.”

The Minister further stated that this program will be carried out within a month after the National Traffic Commission of the Road Passenger Transport Authority within the provinces prepares a regulatory policy.
