Those who oppose the vote will face legal action! The commission’s chairman issues a red light to government officials!

Chairman of the Election Commission, Mr. Nimal Punchiheva, has stated to the Sunday Times that everyone’s support is needed for the local government elections to be held on the 9th of March and the Supreme Court will proceed against all parties who do not do so.

He said that an amount of 800 million rupees has been requested from the Treasury as the amount required for the month of February, especially for the election activities, but the money has not been given so far.

However, the Election Commission had said that the amount of 100 million rupees requested earlier was received from the Treasury.

The Election Commission is not asking for the money to be given all at once, but in parts.

In addition, it is said that the request made by the Election Commission to the Ministry of Electricity and Energy to increase the fuel quota given to the candidates and officials on election duty has not been fulfilled so far.
