There is no tsunami threat to Sri Lanka after a magnitude-7.3 earthquake strikes Indonesia.

A magnitude-7.3 earthquake has struck west of Indonesia’s Sumatra Island, and Sri Lanka’s National Tsunami Early Warning Centre has declared that there is NO tsunami threat to Sri Lanka.

It also stated that Sri Lanka’s coastal areas are safe.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) had previously estimated the magnitude of the quake to be 6.9.

The earthquake struck around 3 a.m. local time (2000 GMT). Aftershocks were detected later, with some measuring around 4 magnitude, according to BMKG data.
