Parliament to Receive Detailed Report Exposing Drug Smuggling and Substandard Purchases Next Week

A comprehensive information report will be submitted to the Parliament next week, which will reveal the smuggling of inferior drugs, the purchase of substandard drugs, the people involved in them and many other important controversial issues related to them.Sri Lanka Latest News

The National Audit Office said that these controversial facts will be disclosed in the audit report specially prepared regarding the activities of substandard drugs and emergency drug purchases.

This special audit report has already been prepared.

On the special instructions of Mr. WPC Wickramaratne, the Chief Auditor of the Government, several groups of officers of the National Audit Office prepared this report after conducting a long investigation on this for almost a year.

It is known that many matters related to the registration of drugs in the Drug Regulatory Authority will be revealed in this report.

Based on the facts revealed in this audit report, the Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE Committee) and the Parliamentary Committee on Government Accounts (COPA) are also scheduled to conduct separate investigations in the coming days.

Former Health Minister Mr. Keheliya Rambukwella and a group of health leaders are currently being remanded in custody in connection with drug trafficking.

The case regarding the distribution of substandard antibody vaccines called ‘Immunoglobulin’ used for nervous patients to government hospitals is being heard before the Maligakanda Court. 110 crores is said to be the loss to the government due to this scam.
