In a vote held to approve the emergency regulations announced by the then-Acting President, Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, 120 MPs voted in favour and 63 voted against.

Mr. Wimal Weerawansa, the government bencher later elected to be independent , voted in favour to the motion, while Dallas Alahapperuma, G. L. Peiris, Dylan Perera, and Wasantha Yapa voted against it.
