The Samagi Jana Balawegaya condemns the detention of Wasantha Mudelige convener of IUSF

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has condemned the government’s attempt to detain Wasantha Mudalige, Convener of the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF).

The SJB issued a statement condemning the use of water cannons and tear gas against peaceful protesters at the IUSF. The party also cited the President’s sentiments on free speech, claiming that these repressive actions are being carried out under the guise of Emergency Law, with no proper justification.

Furthermore, the SJB stated that the situation has created a sense of tension among Sri Lankans, while rejected politicians appear to be returning with contentious statements.

As a result, the SJB has urged the President to halt repression and release the detained student union leaders, arguing that an all-party government cannot function under such conditions.
