The Bar Association has also requested that the Legislative Council appoint a person with a clean record as the new IGP.

At a time when public trust in the police has been shaken, the Sri Lanka Bar Association has written to the Legislative Council urging it not to appoint as the new Inspector General of Police an accused officer who has been sued for fundamental rights.

The Bar Association has stated in that letter that if an accused officer is appointed, the public’s trust in the police will be damaged.
